Memorial Day 2023
Happy Memorial Day 2023. I was working on a Memorial Day 2023 video to post for my clients, friends, and family. While looking through some old inspirational photos and video clips, I found this pillow my Mom made for me out of the shirts that my Dad used to wear. One thing led to another and, well, here’s the video I made for my Mom on Memorial Day 2023.
Thomas Paul Munchbach, affectionately known as “Tom,” was born on June 29, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan. As the youngest son of Edward F. and Alice A. Munchbach, his early life was centered around his family in Mancelona, where he graduated from high school in 1957.
Tom was active in athletics during his time at Mancelona high school where he played football and also spent time on the track and field team.
US Air Force
From an early age, Tom was committed to serving his country, and in 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. His dedication and hard work were evident throughout his military career.
During his service, Tom was stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, a period that held great significance as he met his future wife, Lou Ellen (Bagwell).
Tom the Patriot
After eight years of dedicated service, he retired from the military, leaving a legacy of patriotism and duty.
Moved to Lansing Michigan
Post his military career, Tom and his beloved wife moved to Lansing, Michigan.
He joined General Motors, where he spent the rest of his professional life until retirement.
Despite a demanding work life, Tom always found time for his family and community. He was a pillar of the Capital City Baptist Church, taking on various roles and responsibilities over the years.
From B52 to Cessna 150
Tom had a passion for flying and held a private pilot license.
He loved the freedom and joy of soaring in his Cessna 150.
His adventures in the sky were always a source of joy for him and entertaining tales for his family and friends.
Tom the Family Man
A family man through and through, Tom was a proud father of five children: Tom Jr., James, Theresa, Edward, and Andrew.
Grandpa Tom Munchbach
His legacy also extended to 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and a multitude of friends who loved him deeply.
Family, Service, and Community
Tom’s life was marked by a deep commitment to family, service, and community.
His passing on April 22, 2019, at the age of 80, left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Special Moment
When we were all together, waiting for the “undertakers” to do their last piece of work, we decided to go outside to avoid what we thought would be a painful moment. The folks at Palmer, Bush, and Jenson were amazing. They turned this potentially painful moment into this really special moment for our whole family as we said goodbye to Dad in the living room where me and my siblings grew up with Mom and Dad.
He is remembered not just as a dedicated serviceman, loving husband, and father, but as a guiding light and pillar of his community.
Friends and Family Picures
If you were at Dad’s memorial service, your picture may be in this post. Do let me know if you don’t want your pic in the post and I’ll delete it.
